First time posting here! I have read the sticky by DougLite and found it so very helpful. I've also read reviews from many sources including Tom's Hardware , AnandTech , StorageReview as well.

However, I cannot decide between the Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB NCQ/SATA-150/8mb cache Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 300GB NCQ/SATA-150/8mb cache and the Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 250GB SATA-150/8mb cache

From what I've read, the 7K250 performs better than the 7200.8 in most tests (but the Barracuda performs better in most of the "real world" tests such as App loading/Game loading/File copying performed by AnandTech).
However, the 7K250 is around half a year older than the 7200.8 and it is louder as well, and I get a better deal on the Barracuda 7200.8 than the 7K250 from TigerDirect.ca (my chosen vendor since im from Canada), $50 off on the Barracuda and $0.48/GB, only $10 off on 7K250 and $0.50/GB, all with the Barracuda having 50GB more storage.

My question is: Is the performance advantages of the Hitachi Deskstar 7K250 over the Seagate Barracuda 7200.8 true and noticeable? Is the age of the 7K250 and lack of NCQ a worth considering drawback? Finally, is it worth it to get the 7K250 over the 7200.8 for a bit less value ($0.50/GB compared to 0.48/GB of Barracuda), and lesser storage (250GB compared to 300GB)?? :confused:
 
I would get the seagate simply because I personally think there better quality and it is bigger and there do perform better in stuff that actually matters.
 
Both are good drives I think it comes to cost per MB you can get them at.
 
I just did some more calculations and the price per GB of them are the same after the rebates (since i have to include the 15% taxes first, yes 15%...).
So the decision comes down to performance for me.

At that point I would go with the seagate more MB per dollar at the same type performance.
