I have an FX-53 and upgraded from the stock heatsink/fan. I put on a xp-120 and a 120mm fan that spins @ 2000rpm with 78cfm. I used artic silver 5, just a think layer, barely enough to cover the whole cpu heatspreader. Mounted the xp-120, then the fan. My idle temps are 47-48C. The cpu case is a 25C.

I also put a NV Silencer 4 on my x800xt PE and that is nice and cool at 36C. I used a little more artic silver on that however, as the directions said apply a medium thick layer.

I tried remounting the xp-120 and used the bead method but no change in temps. Should I try a thicker layer? Or get a stronger fan. maybe a delta with 150cfm?
 
First off, what's your load temps? Also, do you have any USB devices plugged in? I've got an A8V mobo with the FX-53 and Thermalright HS and 90mm fan and routinely see 47-48C with mobo temp at 28C (room temp 84F (thank you 3 A64 'puters). IF I disconnect the USB hub, the CPU temp drops. Airflow isn't an issue in this case (Stacker). Load temp wise, running Prime95 or rendering drives up the temp to about 52C and the delta between idle and load temps with the USB hub plugged in isn't nearly as great as the delta without it. My SK8N with the FX51 (Thermalright XP-90) does the same thing. :\ With USB hub, 45C idle. Without is 41C. Load is around 48C.

I'd like to see if there was a way to make those effects go away and keep the USB devices plugged in. :)
 
118 idle is rather normal... the heat pipes dont work untill they go over 100F... now if your load temp was over about 130 or so... that would be different..
my cpu is at 1.775v and it gets about 123 load turning up or down the panaflo does little for temps
 
My load temps are in the mid 50's after playing games for a little while. I will really have to stress it out and see. The only thing I have plugged into the usb ports are my wireless mouse and PDA. That's weird that they would effect the temps of the cpu.

When I first mounted it I used a medium thick layer of AS5 temps were 39 idle. I let it run for about 3 days at idle and basic processing. I then turned it off for the nite. After that temps started to go up again. So thought maybe I put to much on and reseated it with the bead method, but temps were again in the high 40's. The directions for the heatsink did say apply a thin layer to the heat spreader of the cpu and the heatsink. I just did it to the heat spreader. Maybe I will reapply it this weekend yet again. I would really like my idle temps to be under 40 as some are getting.
 
One other thing of note. I don't know what mobo you have but with my A8V (not rev 2) and the FX53, I take most of the settings from this review and apply them. It's a Driver Heaven review on the A8V (http://www.driverheaven.net/reviews/asusA8V/bios.htm) and mentioned some shortcomings of some of the default parameters that may slightly overclock the FX53 and in doing so, drive up the temperature a tad. In my case, leaving things at defaults would have idle temps near 49C with USB devices plugged in.

The joys of hardware. :)
 
I have an A8V deluxe to. It looks like that might be it. My Cpu voltage is to 1.5v not the 1.425v that the review showed. I will give it a try when I get home. That should drop temps a bit. I will post what I find after adjusting it. Thanks for the link!!! :D
 
Hey I got home and went into bios. I had an option to go way lower then 1.425 (bios version 1009), so I set it to 1.4 since the review said the board was off by .1. Now my idle temps are 38C. That is a 10 degree difference from before =). I have not tried running any games yet to see what the load it and if it's stable. Gonna give it a try now.
 
Okay played Warhammer 40k for a bit looks like load is around 48C, down from 55. :D Thanks ReelMcCoy, u really helped me out.
