Cant get to bios, no post...

Anyone feel like brainstorming? :) I just built a new system with all new hardware, everything seemed to go fine in the build phase... no trouble with any components (except a little akwardness getting the cpu hsf on, but thats normal). I have checked all the jumpers (which appear to be fine), cleared the cmos, checked power connecters, etc. When I power on the graphics card bios appears, which would usually be followed by the system bios screen... but that doesnt happen. It just freezes at 'GeForce FX 5200 BIOS... etc"

As far as i can tell everything is normal, all the fans spin up, the video card clearly has power and is giving a display. Anyone have any ideas?

Apollo GeForce FX 5200

Try swapping out the video card. If that doesn't help, try swapping RAM. If that doesn't help my diagnosis would be a DOA Mobo.

However it is 4:15 on a Friday, so my judgement may be a little off. ;)
 
Remember thermal grease in between your HS and processor? Are you sure it's making good contact? Thats always a good thing to check. Hopefully you didn't crack the core or anything. Maybe your motherboard is shot. Do you have another one around to test the stuff on?

Just start swapping out what you can. Like the other guys have said, start with the vid card. Dont forget to check the power supply as well.

touch the CPU heatsink - check if it gets warm at all.. if you're positive that the heatsink makes good contact with the CPU - try swapping the ram..
 
Thanks for the ideas.

I have swapable parts for everything but the CPU and mobo, so I should be able to narrow it down to them if they are the problem (hopefully not, because at that point I will have to RMA both heh). Going to try that now, was just waiting to see if anyone had anything obvious about the biostar boards or something- I am generally not an AMD guy and this is my first time using a biostar.
 
It was the last thing I tried, of course :). Turned out to be a bad video card, DOA as far as I can tell.
