Hi, Ive just setup my new Asus VG236 Monitor. I set the desktop rez to 1920x1080 @120Hz but when i run any games (UT, Quake III, IV) fraps is always reporting 60fps (v-sync on)

I am running on WinXP pro x64 sp2 and GTX285 (Forceware 275.33)

I can't seem to find any monitor drivers for my OS (plug n play atm) ...does this matter at all?

If anyone can help me i would be extremely grateful idd

turn v-sync off, did you install the monitor driver, are you using display port or DVI-D?

HDMI will not allow 120hz.

That also depends on the graphics card. Some cards will not allow refresh rates above 60Hz or 75Hz with any type of digital connection whatsoever. This forces one to use the analog VGA connection to get above 60Hz.

Sorry, i am idd using DVI DL and i did say in the op that i couldn't find any monitor drivers. I do prefer v-sync on otherwise i just get horrible tearing.

Also note that some games are hard capped at 60hz.
yup

Anyway guys, it's definately working as i've just got UT2k4 running in 1920x1080 @120hz with some edit's to the games ini file.
Colin Mcrae 05 also works after a bit of meddling in the menus.
Gonna have a bash at getting Quake III sorted tomorrow :D

Quake 3 engine needs config tweaks for other than 60Hz. It defaults to 60Hz.

I use Refresh Lock to get round that one & along with some console edits - its now running @ 120Hz. :D

Pitty Quake IV doesnt work the same
