Random boot up problem. The Display shows nothing. 1 long beep 3 shorts. Fans are working. LEd lights. I notice also the gpu has a line of green lights. When the problem occurs those lights are off. When the pc boots up ok those lighs are on. So my guess the GPU dont get any power? ITs fans working thought. Strange problem....

I have a 5 year old pc.
Specs:
Cpu - Q9650
CPU COOLING- Asus silend knight 2
VGA - GTX 570
Motherboard - Asus Rambage Formula x48
CASE - Thermaltake Armor + {with 6 fans}
RAM - Corsair 4GB PC8500 1066MHZ,
HDD- Wester Digital VelociRaptor 150GB
PSU: 850w generic brand. (changed recently)

NOT OVERCLOCKED

The problem is i get random 3 beeds. 1 long 3 shorts (i looked it up. Vga error) when booting up. This is totaly random. PC might work for 1-2 months and then the problem appears.

What i do to solve this:
1. take out gpu, put back in - boot up
2.sometimes i just recconet the 6 and 6+2 pcix cables on my gpu - boot up

I also connect that mini display that comes with rambage mobo and the error show the gpu again,

I tried with differend gpu (old gtx 275 i had) and the problem is the same. PC wont boot. 1 long beep 3 short.

Computer will work just fine 2-3 months and suddenly the problem will appear again.
Some times every 2-3 days the pc wont boot up and have to do the above steps.

The powersupply is not the problem. I had a thermalright 750w that died and got a new one(cheap dont remember the brand) The problem was the same with thermalright and now with the new psu. So the psu is not the problem.

I run memtest - no error
3d benchmarks - pc is stable - temps are very good. CPU wont go over 65 celcius when burn test.
I had a pci xpress creative fatality and removed it completely. Problem still their.

Dont know what to do. Might be the mobo?

If you replaced a junk thermaltake psu with a "cheap" off brand psu, it could still very well be the problem. Or a dying gpu. I suspect a crappy power supply is the problem.

Might be the psu, you havent ruled it out.
You replaced a faulty psu with a low quality one and still have issues.
You didnt prove your new psu is not causing problems.

It could be other power related issues too like a badly inserted motherboard power connector.
Check everything.

Happy new year guys,

Thanks for the responce

Can you guys recomment me a cheap psu so i can try it? I get all my staff from amazon.co.uk

I run the gtx 285 now in it. I used the 570gtx in my other system.
