can't find NTFS.sys?

for this error(windows xp home), would I use 'fixmbr' from recovery console or 'fixboot'? ive had bad experiences trying these, which one can totally kill your partition? i tried going into windows repair in windows setup, and it says its an unknown partition now.

I think thats more of a problem with system files than the MBR, I would do a repair install... which may be a problem if your partition is invalid.

Assuming the file just got corrupted, a simple fix from the recovery console will do the trick.
