Ok well earlier the computer was on and I was pluggin the power into the cd-rom drive and i saw a big spark jump. Could that be the reason it doesn't automatically load microsoft office? And also I went to run and browse and did not see it in there either.

...

You saw a big spark jump when you plugged in the drive while the PC was on and your wondering if that could have caused a problem?

Nawwww, computers like that sort of thing. :)

If your lucky, only the drive is dead and not the controller.

I thought sparks were just a visual confirmation that everything is working fine??? JK.

Good god these forums have fallen.

Djnes... you can't complain, people like this person come here, ask a question.. and then when you respond nicely and cordially, become members for life.

Tehandy: My sugguestion is you check in your BIOS, and see if it shows up as secondary device.. if it says unknown device ... well, I hate to say it but, you might have to return it. Hopefully you didn't fry your controller.. wouldn't want to get another powersupply.. heh =(. Anyways, thats really too bad man, hope it wasnt a nice drive.

Let this be a warning to all you newbies out there: When plugging in electrical devices on your computer, be sure to turn the power off first.

Please never work on anything with enough voltage (yes, I know, volts don't kill, amps do, don't flame me :p ) to kill you... Because, eh, you'd end up dead :p

You've only been a member as of this month. If you were around for a few years, you would know why I posted that. Notice also that the original poster was given a "two week vacation". As I've stated before, and been "sigged" by a few people, these forums were never about stupid useless posts, or ridiculous questions like "What goes in my CD-Drive". This was the most advanced DIYer's forum on the internet. Anyone wonder why most of the "old school" members have stopped coming around? It's stupid threads like this one that have people making fun of the [H] in other forums. So, in closing, I'll complain if I want to...I've bene here 4 years and have seen the DRAMATIC change.
