Cant find an E8400 anywhere

WTF is going on? Did Intel really drop the ball here, or is this CPU really selling that well, or a little of both?

I can't believe I've had so much trouble getting a single CPU.

I've heard everything from production and yield issues to simply because there is no competition, so they are going to milk their 65nm parts for all they are worth. Who knows...

went to tigerdirect, microcenter, and frys here in Chicago and they have nothing with no idea when they'll get it in. I've looked online everywhere and nothing...I think I'm just SOL for now. Will just have to hunker down and wait I suppose.

If I dont get my Wolfdale soon, somebody will get hurt ! ... :)

I was hoping to snag one of these from Microcenter but found out you need to actually go to the store for them. Sucks when you live in Florida and the only place you can go to for stuff like this are mom and pop shops. If you are really wanting one of these things, you can check out eBay. I saw the equivalent Xeon E3110 on there for $220.

I am also looking for the e8400. I have every other component of my new system except this piece. If there isnt anything by this weekend I will order a Q6600. SCREW IT.

Yeah, I've been looking with no luck either. I've decided to put off my annual upgrade cycle until Q2. Hopefully by then the Vista SP1 will finally be out, so I'll just upgrade to Vista 64 and finally my 4 gigs of installed RAM will all be usable.

I feel your pain, sort of. I am in the process of putting together a SFF pc to serve as my LAN box and my HTPC. I have everything purchased and assembled already. All I'm waiting for is a darn E8400 at a reasonable price. If it wasn't for my main rig (see sig), I probably would have broken down and picked up either an E4500 or E6750.

It looks like my main rig may have one more LAN left in it.

I 'm very surprise about that , may be someone hunting it because of ocing like a charm

Get ready to pay up if you buy it on eBay. With this chip out of stock everywhere and demand being high, you're likely to see prices begin to reflect the laws of supply and demand, and climb higher. I did a simple search of completed listings and this is clearly evident. The price a few weeks ago for an E8400 on eBay was about $220. Now prices are hitting $275 - $300. My guess is once they're readily available at online retailers again, they will also be charging a premium. In other words, it's very unlikely that the price you see quoted when it states "sorry out of stock" will NOT be the price when they get there first shipment in. And if demand remains high, so will the price. Such is life.

Amazon sells them. Price: $295.00 & this item ships for FREE with Super Saver Shipping.
Availability: Usually ships within 3 to 6 weeks. Ships from and sold by Amazon.com.

That's what I figured about finding the thing on eBay but I found this auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=190202958082 somehow (can't find it through the search - but then I never really searched for it) and its for the E3110 for $222 shipped. So if anyone is looking for a retail boxed Xeon E3110 this looks like a good deal. The auction is also hosted by eWiz it seems. Looks like they have 15 left as of my post date/time.

Edit: Oops, I didn't realize that the auction ended on the 3rd.

Yeap, got mine when we had 3 last ones in stock. It is 4.4Ghz on air, baby! Could push it more with better cooling, surprised how easy it was to overclock on such a plain motherboard... The mobo has been originally created for 1066 bus (1333 with BIOS update).

Getting my 3110 from Tankguys via Fedex on 3/5...got a tracking number. Any hints for installing it on my P5e?

1st, get latest bios
2nd, load defaults in bios
3rd, replace CPU
4th, if booted up, tweak your settings
5th, if everything works well then start overclocking...

Just got my E8400 from TigerDirect via UPS. Thanks to whoever posted the link earlier in the thread.

The 12 dollar shipping cost sucked, but atleast I got it. They shipped it super fast and it was packaged well too,... so i guess i feel better about it.

Just checked mwave, it seems they upped the price another $5. Still in stock, though. Seems like the only place currently offering them in stock.

Kind of weird about Microcenter - I don't usually take grey market processors since I have to buy in the channel as an IPP, but I just took a truckload of these processors from Microcenter "overstock" since there are none in distribution. They definitely have a ton more. I have no clue where the disconnect is with their stock and their website, though - it's a big company and I think they run their business as a lot of little independent branches. For what it's worth, my source was their Ohio branch - call em!

I just called my local Frys electronics and they had a few of the e8400s in stock. Just FYI!!!

Dont have a Frys anywhere near here either! These stores should put these chips online for us to buy instead of just sitting in a store!

I searched for 5 days.. till I found 4 days ago that Tiger had it.. just recieved it today :)
After the Crysis. 1.2 patch finishes downloading currently at 87% .. and just updated my 8800gt drivers to the new beta.. I will go ahead and install the new chip and enjoy the difference.

Seems like CPUs will come soon in stock. Prices will go down to $200 point again.
