Hi,

First off, I don't know if this is the proper place to post, so please tell me where to re-post if necessary.

I recently bought a new hard drive to replace a broken one in my Compaq Presario 2170US. The problem is that I can't boot from my Windows XP Pro cd, and the laptop does not have a floppy drive. What can I do to boot under these circumstances? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Change the boot order in bios (by pressing F10) and make sure the cd/cdrw/dvd/dvdrw is the first device to boot from :D

good luck

Just to add a tip, some lappys boot so fast through the post screen or have a oem splash screen that you miss the "hit any key " to boot off the cd prompt. Once you tweak your boot order in cmos lightly tap the space key while your booting untill you see the OS intializing your setup. That way even if you missed the prompt , you will be doing the job
