Two threads in one day. Just trying to get some sort of server running so I can give my devs at work some VM capacity.

Does anyone have any tips other than BIOS updates to get VT-X / pass through enabled? I can't find anywhere on the internet that says VT-X isn't enabled on this motherboard;

There is a single option in the BIOS for "Virtualized Technology" which I've enabled, but the vSphere Client says "Host does not support passthrough configuration".

Supermicro X7DB3 (latest BIOS)
Dual Xeon 5130 2.0 ghz
32GB DDR2

hardware pass-through=vt-d not vt-x
there is not pass-through support on Intel 5000P (too old)

For some of the older boards - they ship with vt-d "off".
Just go to bios - not too hidden... Took me all of about 5 minutes to set this feature "on".

Thanks for the tip about 5000P. I guess I could have just read the wikipedia page to find out if the chipset supports VT-X

I've enabled the single virtualization option but never got pass-through to work.
This pig is just gonna end up a FreeNAS server for now.

Gonna work on the other one that is PSOD'ing.
