Can't edit posts?

No, it has not. But there are certain forums such as [H]ard|OCP Front Page News, where you cannot edit your posts after a certain time period.

You cannot edit your posts in Front Page News.

To make people think about what they are typing the first time.

Well... that sounds like the solution to a problem, but I'm not sure what the problem is, or why it's serious, or why it's specific to the news forum.

The front page news forum, can be almost like a mini soap box. People will sometimes get aggitated and post something they regret and then edit the post. By turning it off, it forces those people to think before posting. The tech forums a little different, as it's usually helping people, or pretty basic posting. However emotion tends to flow alot more in the Front Page News forum. It's a solid policy. If you want a little more leway, you can pay for a subsciption to the off-topic forums and enter the Soapbox if you dare!

Ok. I can understand that.

I have to point out though that most people won't realize that they can't edit until they try and edit. Plus, I think most people realize the error when they see it "in print" and are looking at it freshly from that perspective -- I'd think that a 1-minute grace period would be fair, and productive.

It's called the "preview post" button... works wonders. ;)

That's only in "advanced".

That's not what I mean anyway. I'm referring to the state of mind of someone who has already posted and rereads as other might read it, not how it looks in a different font. It's the same reason that you don't publish something without having a peer or editor review it, you are too familliar with it visually to pick out a missed detail.

People will make mistakes. I've read a couple of news threads today, and in each of them there's people posting corrections to their own posts. Yes, you can suggest that they do it beforehand, as you could ask them to not make grammatical/spelling/punctuation errors, but it won't work.

Sort of like a cow. They will figure out the fence is electric the second time.
