I have a Dell Inspiron 531 desktop with AMD dual core processor 4000 and 4GB of RAM.
I am running Windows 7 home edition. I have not turn on this desktop in a couple of month. It shows last update was April, 2015. So, I recently turn it on and went to check for windows updates. I have windows update checked to "check updates but let me choose to download and install." The updater opens and I click check for updates. It's looking for updates but nothing happens. Left it running for 1/2 hour but nothing. No error code..nothing.
Any ideas/suggestions will be appreciated
Thanks

With that processor and ram combination and the time since your last update it might take Windows longer than a half an hour to check through all the available updates!

I already tried Windows update fix. Same problem.

As suggested by jrweis I been checking update now for 2 hours and still no updates.

Read some were to delete the Software Distribution Folder in Windows.
Is that a good idea..??

Thanks

On fresh installs on very fast machines I've had windows update taking up to 36 hours to detect and install the updates. Something is terribly wrong with thier update servers.

I've been going through the same thing with an HP laptop running Vista SP2. Just let your updater run for as long as you need to. I left mine running for a couple of hours and it finally connected and had my updates. I think it is their servers too. Use their update fixer to check for a problem-run it both automatically and manually.

if you hit "Shut Down" .. does it say "Install updates and shut down"?

Well guys: I set the desktop to "check for updates" over night. To my surprise this morning, they were all there. I install most of them staying away from Kb2952664 and Kb3035583. I am not interested in Win 10 yet. Thanks all for your help.
