Used mostly for gaming, but also for MP3's, CD's and DVD's. I have Logitech z640's..my old SB live is only 4.1...so it's out, right now I have it hooked up to the onboard, but I would rather have a seperate sound card. I want it to have hardware Dolby Digital decoding...

Here are the choices:

Gainward Hollywod @ Home 7.1 for $30 shipped

Hercules Muse 5.1 DVD for $35 shipped

CLSB Audigy LS for $50 shipped

Chaintech AV-710 for $26 shipped (seems to be pretty much the same card as the gainward).

Unless someone has a better option for under $50...so far I'm leaning toward the Audigy LS, just because I used to Creative cards...thanks.

Well, i know most here would recommend the Chaintech AV710 over its Gainward Hollywood clone for various reasons that i cant remember. The Hercules muse card is based upon the aged and inferior cmedia 8738 chipset so i wouldn't bother with it on a $50 budget.

IMHO its a contest between the Chaintech and Audigy LS so i'll let the true audiophiles here elaborate in detail.

If i were forced to choose then it would be the Chaintech AV710...

Edit: you may want to look up the original Extigy as its reported to be a quality Dolby solution and can still be found on ebay for around $50-$70ish.
