i want 64 bit already and iam getting tired of my current PC (sig). i have enough $$ saved up to buy some new parts.

I game, but not THAT much anymore. HL2, chronicles of riddick, CS:Source, etc.
So i dont think I will need SLI setup.

For the mobo iam stuck between the ASUS SLI mobo or wait on that new abit which is not even out yet :( . For the ram, i cant decided never read alot about ram, so i think i will go with what my friend recommends whos a tech. geek or ask the ppl. of [H] for advice. I will keep the HDDs out of my current system.

VGA - stuck between a Nvidia 6600 - dunno which model yet or getting a x700 ati or possibly the x800 if i need a nice deal on one.

Sound - Audigy 2, dont know which one. as long as it has a firewire port on it, ill be happy since i need that for my ipod.

PSU - will my current one be good enough for my next rig or should i swap that out too?

As you can tell this will be alot of money, if i sell my current parts for a decent amount of $$ i will jus have to add a few hundred.

So feel free to criticise, give your opinion, or suggest new things. I am simply looking for as much input as possible to help me decide on my next rig.
 
What's your budget? How fast do you want your games to go and how important is having all the eye candy turned on?
 
well with my current rig, i play on 1600 x 1200. i dont have AA on or Vsync. i beat HL2 today with my friends over and they said its looks amazing. I am pretty satisfied my self, I am not a hardcore gamer who cares about having that 1 FPS faster then the dude next door.

budget, dunno. I never calculated stuff yet. I got enough to finance my PC parts, if anything ill stick onto a CC and pay it month by month. But iam not planning on spending a TON of cash on this.

I'd recommend you wait for the DFI and Abit SLI boards to come out and then choose the one most people like and get a 6600GT - it's a decently priced card and the 6800GTs aren't even out yet and pricing on them will be high quite for some time I'm sure

if the 6600GT isn't enough for you, you can always add a second one later
 
6800GT's are out now in PCI-E. They are just hard to find. I just purchased one. It's en route now.

I can also think of better brands than DFI. From a sheer reliability standpoint the Asus A8N-SLi is a better bet as far as I am concerned. I'm not knocking DFI really. I just have had better experiences with Asus than DFI.

If you want to play at 1600x1200 then a 6800 series card is probably something you should invest in. Even without AA and AF I don't personally feel my 6600GT is fast enough. In some games I turn it down from 1280x1024 to 1024x768 to keep the smoothness up. I feel like at higher resolutions like 1600x1200 and 1280x1024, the FPS just jumps around too much. It just feels a little too choppy for my taste. That again may be more my personal preferences and opinions more than anything.

I've owned the X700Pro and the 6600GT and the 6600GT was the faster of the two in EVERY game. Hands down it's the better card. SLi might be something you would want to invest in if for no other reason than as an upgrade path. Something to consider.

I understand that your past experiences with DFI may have been bad, but from what I've seen, most people seem very impressed by them.

Also, the DFI board isn't even out yet, so how can you compare it the ASUS? From what I've seen, the A8N-SLI is anything but reliable - but then again, I don't have one, so I'm not in a postion to say too much about it.

I standby my original advice of waiting until all the major companies have their SLI boards out and then letting everyone else battle the bugs/problems for a few months until the top 1 or 2 boards emerge. The A8N-SLI is not only ASUS's first SLI board, it's the first SLI board from anyone, and first generation hardware like this is usually prone to problems.
 
And I didn't notice your post about gaming at 1600x1200. I agree with Sir-Fragalot that you will probably need a 6800GT for that resolution, however, as mentioned, it may take some searching to find one at a decent price.
