Cant decide between 4850 or 4870

My current setup

E8400 Intel 3.0 Duo Chip
P5Q-E Asus Motherboard
4 Gigs of ram 667 MHZ
Nvidia 8800 GTS 320MB

Now will i see a performance gain going form a 8800 GTS 320MB to a 4850 or a 4870? i like to play my games high settings if possible at the resolution of 1680x1050 with AA and AF

And which brand is the best?

The 4850 is a solid card. The only issue I have with the early cards is the heat/cooling. Even after modding the BIOS it could be better... but that's what you get for buying early. ;) If you have a mobo that supports CF and money is factoring into the equation then I would grab a 4850 for $130 and be done with it. You can always add another in there later.

I use my 4850 CF setup to game at 1920x1200 and have little to no problems. But I plan to sell them and move onto a 4870X2 soon.
 
You'll see a very noticeable gain with either card, especially with AA and AF. The big difference between the 50 and 70 is GDDR5 on the 70 with gives much better bandwidth. Honestly though, considering the price delta on a 20" WS, the 4850 ought be enough card for you ATM. (XFire results are looking good too!)

You want to pay that much more for a 4870? It is $355 vs $205 for a 4850??

Get a 4850 or two!
 
you have a crossfire board so you may do far better getting two 4850 and using crossfire. and they OC well.
 
With 4850 you can play most games with AA & AF. The only exceptions are Crysis, Crysis Warhead and STALKER:Clear Sky.
 
Okay well in 15 minutes im on my way out to pick up a 4850 for around 230 bucks canadian
 
get the 4870! I just bought the the 4850 coming from a x850..

I want to add a after market cooler which will end up costing ~190 for a 4850 so think about that.
 
lol I payed $150 for my 4850 with a GFX Chilla. Should run 15C cooler than stock and much quieter.
