Sorry to hear you have so much important stuff on that drive... you don't have another backup somewhere?

Anyways, on to your problem...
First off, some more information would be helpful.
What OS?
How does the drive connect? (USB/Firewire)
The drive used to work perfectly before?
Does the drive power on when you turn it on? (can you hear it spin up?)
Is the power plugged into the wall? (have to ask...)

Let me know a little more and maybe we can help you out!

my bad about the lack of info.

My os is XP PRO
yes I have tested this on another pc and it works (os is XP PRO)
device shows power light and hard drive activity light
it is a Firewire/usb device (looking for the usb cord now)
the drive works perfectly on my other pc just not my new one.

thanks for wanting to help me

also like i said earler about having it filled up... i only have about 105mb free on it... lol

heh, I know how that feels about the lack of space! I have an external 80GB drive, and two internal 80GB's, and somehow they all get filled up!

Well, that's good to hear that your drive works on another computer, so your drive is fine! It could be some kind of driver problem. You say you're looking for the USB cable, does that mean you were using Firewire? Try the USB and see how that works...

Have you recentely updated anything? (such as install SP2)

You could try going into the device manager, right click on your firewire card and disable it, reboot, and re-enable it.

You can do this by right clicking on My Computer, click Properties, click the Hardware Tab, click the Device Manager button and find where your firewire device is listed. Mine is listed under IEEE 1394 Bus Host Controllers. Right click on your device and select disable. Reboot and then go back into the device manager and right click and select enable. (it might also detect and try to install it automatically on your next boot , if so let it do that)

You can also try updating your driver too by clicking right clicking on your device, and selecting Update Driver.
