Ok maybe I'm forgetting something but regardless this is annoying. I'm trying to get online with my laptop but I can't view any websites. Now, there's only one place I can do this at and they happen to go through some Qatar broadband company (I'm on a military base). I can get an IP just fine and I can even connect to Limewire (not my favorite but Qatar seems to block everything else), Xfire and even internet radio stations. I was even able to connect to Steam and play some HL2 deathmatch.

I can't connect to any websites though, nor can I connect to a few other games such as Titan Quest and Guild Wars. They both say there's no internet connection detected. What's going on? Everything worked fine yesterday but do they have a block on me perhaps?

Doesn't matter as long as you can download *cough*illegal*cough* mp3s right? :p

anyway, have you check for spyware and firewall settings? although I've never seen any of them mess around/blocking http request.

Limewire (along with most other P2P programs) infests your system with adware, spyware, and trojans. Either prepare yourself for a long time spent cleaning your system..or format/reinstall windows.

If you want to attempt the cleaning approach....I'd start with
Disabling system restore
CCleaner
Spybot Search and Destroy, update, immunize, scan-remove
Adaware..update, scan-remove
Ewido...update, scan-remove
Online scan at TrendMicro (HouseCall)
Get a good antivirus like Kapersky, NOD32, or BitDefender
Run this at the end

Are you using a hardline, or wireless? My neighbor had this a while back switching and forth, from stealing wireless off our other neighbors. He went from router to router, and when he wanted to get back on his the shared network worked, but no internet. I had to static ip the machine to get it back. To finally fix it, had to remove network settings and recreate them, and presto. If that isnt it, then try to ping a few sites via command prompt. if that works then switch to firefox and your good :)

Yeah I was reluctant to install Limewire since it's crap but it's the only thing that lets me download umm... err...yeah. Everything else like bit-torrent, emule, etc is blocked. I already had Nod32 but I'll try a spyware scan just for giggles. Oh, I couldn't even ping any sites through the command prompt. Pretty weird stuff.

check your dns, isp dns server could be down, try to connect to a site by ip instead of domain name

yahoo ip is http://216.109.112.135

Yep,it was the DNS server. It wasn't automatically finding it so I had to enter it manually. Thanks for the help.
