Can't boot from CD

I get the DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK error when the computer is Booting from CD...

I have had my boot order set to:
1. CDROM
2. HDD

The CD drive seems fine. It opens and closes.

This inability to boot from CD started immediately after a strange problem installing Windows XP:

I installed XP via CD. The first part was done and it said the computer would restart. After POST it said "Booting from CD..." and the screen froze with some jumbled letters. So now I get DISK BOOT FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK.

My HDD is fine - I have reformatted my HDD, checked it for errors with Gparted, and installed Ubuntu via USB with no problems but I am baffled why I can't boot from CD anymore.

Note: I am concerned this might have something to do with the CMOS battery. I took it out the other day and it fell into my PSU case and I had to take out the PSU and tilt it around to get the battery out. The battery looks OK... but maybe it got damaged rolling around in the PSU box?

Again, thanks for reading; any help is greatly appreciated. :confused:

UPDATE: CDs do not mount. I guess its the CD drive.
