I hope someone can help me! The motherboard failed on my Genealogy computer.
It was about 4 years old, so I guess that could be expected. I purchased an up-to-date MoBo kit. (AMD Phenom II x4 955, 3.21GHz, 3.25GB RAM) I got the system up and running with 2 140GB SATA Hard Drives, 2 SATA CD/DVD R/W, and Floppy Drive. I have a lot of important data on my old ide 6GB hard drive. I have printed backups, but it would take a long time to enter it. I installed the ide 6GB hard drive at the end of the ide ribbon. Note that is all that is on the ide ribbon, this MoBo only had one ide ribbon. I put the jumper on select. Yep, you guessed it, I can’t access it! It only shows up in “Computer Management” and “Device Management”. It is listed in Computer Management as Disk Unknown, 6.00GB, Not Initialized, and Unallocated; and Quantum Fireball ST6.4A under Device Management. I have never did anything like this before, is there any why I can get to the contents. I have no idea what “Not Initialized and Unallocated” means? Will I lose the data if there is a way to fix the drive? I’m using the same Windows XP Pro, SP3, CD that I used on the old system. But if I can’t get this drive working XP may not be legal? I’ll look into that later! Many thanks, for anything you can tell me.
Sorry this is so long!

if it says not initialized and the entire partition table is not present (represented by a black bar on the top of the drive partition side of the window), then the drive has lost it's partiion data. you need a program like GetDataBack, for either Fat32 or NTFS, depending on how it was formatted, previously. whatever you do, DON'T INITIALIZE IT.

you've gota long road ahead, my friend.
