im lookin for some good headphones as a newb to the audiophile world. I like all types of music and they will be mostly used in my room listenin to music. The ATH-900 from audio technica looks okay, as does the hd580. I'm not a basshead so allessandro and Grado are pretty much out. Any other recomendations?

Also what sorta of amp should i ask to get from Mister X?

what about some beyerdynamic dt880's? i know they're closed and all but they seem pretty good. I still like the hd580's a lot too.

i have both the HD580s and the A900s, both sound great out of the amps i got from mister x , =D, the mod of this forum.

what amp should i ask for from mister x?

i'm really leaning towards A900's

i'd recommend atleast a Pimeta. The sound quality from a Pimeta is on par with many more epensive amps and has many of the things that a PPA has, at less then half the cost.

Funny, I haven't heard the Grado or Alessandro's refered to as "basehead" phones. The Grado's are usually considered "bright" or too "bright" for some and the Allessandros are supposed to be a more neutral version. Listening to the SR-125s I have, the base is good but I wouldn't consider them bass heavy.

Sure you aren't thinking of maybe DT-770s?

But in the price range and style of what you seem to be looking for I would also suggest the AKG-501s as they are not base heavy and have great soundstage. As well, they are just damn comfortable to wear.
