Canon's picture is better?

I'm new to all this but my eye is picking up that pictures fron Canon digital cameras are somehow more colorful, more detailed, and just overall better. Before I realized this I bought a Sony P72 which I like don't get me wrong but I'm not sure I can get some of the shots that these Canons do.

I'm not looking for advice on how to use my camera but I'm looking for voices that say yes, Canon does make the best digital cameras out right now. Is that true?

Generally, yes. But there are always duds among some manufacturers, and there are diamonds in the rough among others. So you can't say all of Canon's cameras are great, as they definitely have some stinkers. But on the average Canons are better IMO.

Not really. Different people have different tastes and you will find that certain people like the color from Canon's cameras, while others like Olympus color, or Sony color, etc.

Canon cameras generally have less noise than cameras in their same class. Less noise means less "grain" in the image. This "grain", common to all digital cameras, is a detail killer. When a camera oversharpens, or has a dense CCD that causes high noise levels, details are sacrificed. So in most cases a camera with a low amount of noise will give you better details than a camera with more noise. Generally Canons are the best cameras at providing acceptable noise levels.

"Getting the shot" has more to do with the features of an individual camera, than the brand/make of the camera. If your camera has manual controls and things like adjustable white balance and different exposure modes, you can "get the shot" with almost any brand.



Overall Canon really excels in their point and shoot line. You said you got the P72. With its competition being the Canon A70, I think you would have been much happier with the A70 (or even the A60) as it is a camera that provides superior image quality, superior build quality, superior battery life, and more manual controls than the Cybershot.
