just acquired this cam, is it good, can i get new lenses for this cam, are all canon lenses compatible???

The camera is nice and durable. You can find good lenses for it on eBay or used from stores like KEH. I don't think you can use EOS (auto focus) lenses with it though. Make sure you read some reviews and info before you buy lenses for it. (Photo.net has a good archive, I'm sure someone's asked about the same lenses you want to get, do a search.)

No and yes. You might be able to find mint used FD lenses for that camera. The new EOS EF lenses won't work with that camera. Most of the non-mint lenses are in good to awsome condition. Just remember to stick with Canon brand lenses with an FD camera.

Its an awsome camera, I learned almost everything on its predecessor (The AE-1). So you have your self a camera that will get you started. NOTE: If you are going to upgrade in the future, remember don't spend too much on this one (get the basics). A 50mm, a 24mm WA, and at least a 200mm TP.

Cheers,

The AE-1p is an excellent, durable camera that with care can still provide you years of use.

If money's an issue, there's no reason not to get 3rd party lenses for this camera. Sigma, Tamron, even Vivitar made some excellent metal bodied older lenses. As previous posters have suggested, unless you never plan to upgrade to autofocus(or digital), you probably shouldn't invest heavily in lenses for this camera. A good place to look would be www.keh.com
