I finally bought my Canon 430EX Flash  . I saw it at a local Circuit City nearby so I just had to buy it. Anyway, this is my first external flash so any tips and tricks will be greatly appreciated.

So far I really like it, it fits nicely proportioned to my Rebel XT's size and frame. I took some sample shots and I can already tell a big difference from the built it flash, but I really need to get some rechargeable AA batteries.

I wouldn't mind doing a review for you guys but I wouldn't know how or where to start (seeing as this is my first flash as I already mentioned.) Although, I did shoot at a very dim room and it was nicely lit up by this flash. Anyway, in the upcoming days, I will try to get some photos up.

Here is what it looks like:

Price was $299.99+Tax
Total came out to $323.23

Does it support TTL? Honestly for that price I would have bought the Canon top of the line 580EX for about $350 online. I think the 580 has faster recycle times, better AF(I believe), brighter. But I would get a StoFen OmniBounce for your flash.

See how far you get without the omnibounce. I have a 580 and I'll usually bounce off the ceiling or angle the head ~45 degrees and use the catchlight if the ceilings are too high.

Yes I believe it supports E-TTL II , E-TTL, and TTL. I have used & played around with the 580EX but I wanted this one, I want to get another lens, so $400 for a flash wasn't what I was looking to spend. Oh and I don't really like buying online, so if I were to get the 580EX I would have had to go to Samy's which is atleast 1hr and a half or so away from me.... Overall, I am very content with my purchase...

I will experiment more with it tomorrow as soon as I purchase some rechargeable Energizer NiMh Batteries.

I really like the fact that I can bounce the flash around :D. I can see that being very useful!

Congrats on the flash purchase! I only have a 420EX...no manual controls at all. The 430EX looks to have manual controls, so it is a much wiser purchase than a fully auto external flash like mine.

I just wish they weren't so darn expensive. You can get a speedlite...or a studio strobe...or a nice fast lens for about the same price :(

Thanks! Yeah, I totally agree with you. Which is why I opted for this rather than the more expensive 580EX. This flash was already expensive, how much more for the 580EX? It just didn't seem feasible for me to spend anymore money especially since this is my first external and all... I still want to be able to buy a lens :)!

I have a GC for Circuit City. I might buy this flash. I have been looking at the Sigma 500 Super blah,blah,blah....What lens does Circuit City carry? Their website sucks, and does not show what products the stores carry...
