Cannot raise refresh above 75hz!

I like to run my monitor resolution at 1280 x 960 32bit.

My new Gigabyte 6600gt goes out of synch whenever I try to raise the refresh rate above 75hz at 1280 x 960 32bit. Yes, I have tried 16bit and no luck.

My old Radeon 9700 pro would run that res and refresh rate no problem.

My monitor is a 19 inch Flat CRT Samsung SyncMaster 955DF.
I have the latest Forceware Drivers and latest Monitor driver.

Anyone else experience this problem or know why?
 
heya, just a question. Are you running any third party software like powerstrip or any overclocking tool?

I have the same monitor, well not the exact same, but its pretty close. You will not be able to go higher, our monitor isnt able to go over 75hz at that reso...you will have to go down to 1152x864 to hit 85hz.
 
I think this monitor should be able to do better because with my Radeon 9700pro I could swear I had it at 100hz with all the same setting.

I am not running any 3rd party software, I always shut that stuff off.

I dunno, not a big deal. Thanks for the feedback though.
 
Your 9700 Pro was not running @100Hz. This is a stupid little ATI refresh rate driver quirk that I had to deal with when I had my 9800Pro. There is a part of the ATI driver config that controls the monitor and refresh rate. So right click desktop, properties, settings, advanced, displays, then select your monitor.

Where is says use DDC information, make sure that is unchecked, and select the manufacturer specified refresh rate and resolution that you are runnning.

I found that if I did not do this, the refresh settings would not properly be set. i.e. I would set the refresh rate to 85Hz and my games Vsync would cap at 60 fps, indicating the monitor was refreshing at 60Hz.

So the answer to your frustations: Your monitor DOES NOT SUPPORT the refresh rate you are trying to set, your old video card drivers WERE NOT SETTING your refresh rate properly, and most importantly, your monitor's refresh rate will be capped by the MONITOR'S specifications looooong before the video card will stop it.
 
Thanks. I guess the ATI control panel just made me think I was running 100hz. Makes sense because you would think my 6600gt would be able to support refresh rates just as high.
 
Yah I have the exact same monitor 955DF and highest I can go on 1280X960 is 75hz
 
Careful... don't want to break anything by raising the refresh rate too high. The human eye can't detect anything above 62 Hz anyway. 75 is plenty fast.

I can clearly tell the difference between 60 and 75, 60 bothers my eyes
 
What would you notice different between 60 and 75mHz. Does the screen flicker? My monitor only goes to 60Hz because of my video card but can go as high as 85 (I think). How much of a difference is there really between 60 and 75mHz?
 
I can tell the difference up to 100Hz. After that honestly I can't tell. All I can tell about 100Hz is that it's clearer than 85Hz. Barely. 60-75 just hurts.
 
What's the deal with people having a 14 LINE SIG??? Anyway, if your monitor doesn't support it, the box that says "hide modes my monitor cannot display" can be unchecked and you can try to force a higher refresh rate. Is going out of sync meaning its horizontally tearing or going out of range?

LOL!!! I must have bionic eyes then, because anything under 75Hz on a CRT, flickers so much that I get a headache. Now if you're talking about an LCD, then I can go along with your comment...

That is poop. 60Hz kills my eyes when using the desktop. FLICKER! I can play some games at 60Hz though, without much issue. 75Hz used to be fine, but now even that bothers me slightly while using the desktop. I can tell the difference between 75Hz and 85Hz. I haven't really tried much above 85Hz, so I can't comment on anything above that.

That is the same kinda crap like "the human eye can only see up to 30 FPS anyways." yeah...

:rolleyes: stop it. I can tell between 75Hz and 85Hz, just go into Windows Explorer and look against the white background while looking away to the side of the monitor, 75Hz has a slight flicker from the corner of your eye, while at 85Hz it does not.

Ultimateman: thanks for the DDE tip, it worked and fixed the fucking annoying 60Hz setting upon bootup.
