Ok here is my problem, i am trying to install windows on a new hd. when i pop it the cd and everything, goes to the setup screen. Now here is the problem, for the last 30 minutes, it has been doing the pre start up thing for windows setup. i mean the blue screen where it goes through raid and all that. i thought it was a HD problem so i switched it. 4 diferent HD and still the same. so i was like ok, change the cable. 4 cables later, small problem. so i was like... ok....... changed the memory, 3 sticks and same problem. okkkkkkkk.... reset the bios, still same problem. so i was like ok fine, CD-ROM drive. 4 drives later... same problem... help please?

Does it say it is restarting and then when it does it goes back to the blue screen? If it does, pull out the CD while it reboots and see what happens.

well when it finishes loading and everything, it gets stuck at the "search for previous version of windows". do you think maybe the mobo might be messed up?

Try turning down your memory timings or upping your voltage. That should fix the issue.

Also, try the install with just 1 stick of ram.

still having the same problems...i reset the bios and still have the problem lol

Hmmm.... So your runnning 1 stick of ram and you upped your voltage? I'm not sure what to tell you.... Is the hard drive the only new thing in your rig then? I'm assuming this isn't the 1st time that you've done an install from this Windows disc either?

yeah i installed from the cd just a few hours ago on a new comp i just built. this comp i'm currently trying to get up and running was working with its old hd. i just pulled the hd and install a new one to install but of course having these problems. i only other thing i can think of that i haven't tried is to pull the processor, clean it, and reapply compound to it. lol. it might work!

I'm going to say that this might be an HD issue. If you've installed this copy of windows on a different machine and it works, then it might be the HD. Try this. It sounds like you have 2 PC's, pull ram from the working install and put it in the PC where the install fails.

In my expereince when installs bork it's a ram issue for some reason.

ok new info, i just tried a different hd that i installed the os off of another comp, tried to put it in this comp, this is what happens. It starts to load, i see the white bar on bottom loading. but before it gets to the windows xp loading screen it just restarts. does this over and over.

This just doesn't seem like a hard drive issue. It seems like something just isn't stable. RAM, heat and etc could come into play here.

Try booting into safe mode.

tried, reboots.... man i quit. i don't know no more. i'l going to bring to best buy and let geek squad do it! hehe :D

ive had similiar problems where it worked on one machine and not the other it was either the cdrom 1time the other time it was the DAMNED disc.

good thing i have habit of making backups of every piece of software i have.

try diff optical drives and a backup disc if u have or can make, i suggest Winiso if u have not sure if there is a trial version for winiso.

u tried man thats all that matters, but id still beat it to the ground until i figured it out.(but thats me and im crazy, heh)

i have 3 different disk,,, same problem. i'll just let the geeks deal with it. i use to work there so they do it for free haha

What mobo do you have?

You might need to do an old school install, Fdisk, Format, load basic drivers, then install windows.

oh man... lol this morning when i got home from school, freaking i said, one more time, and the stupid crap installed and now works fine. man seriously, this comp is retarded

i've actually sort of had the same problem. my last PC it was acting really strange during installs. but ive also heard a lot of people have had trouble installing winxp on higher quality hardware.

i couldnt imagine going to bestbuy holding my PC. i just couldnt find it in myself to do such a thing.. just think about it...... id throw the PC away and build another one if i couldnt fix it.

I've had a similar problem before. I found out one of my ram sticks had errors. You should run memtest86 on your ram to scan for errors just in case. A ram with errors can screw up your xp installation. Trust me.... I know. It took me 3-4 WHOLE days, yes day and night if you're wondering trying to install xp for like how many times i forgot but it was a lot. I think i killed one of my cd drives this way because it acts funky now. Anyways I decided to install a floppy drive and try out memtest86. Guess what, one of my sticks was full of errors. Pulled it out. Installed xp. Everything was perfect. What a waste for 3-4 days. I should have stopped after the 3rd try of installing xp but no, i refused -_- . Dumb decision by me. Anyways just try testing your memory. You might be surprised.

I've had this problem before, Try installing a different OS. (Windows 2000 usually snaps in like a charm), then after you do that, put XP on. Should fly into it np.

well, since no one's mentioned it; PSU issue?? if all else fails, try a different PSU..... PSU issues can mimic problems with just about every subsystem in a PC...... suprised no one has mentioned it, though.......

EDIT: if you cannot fix it, chances are the Geek Squad will have even more trouble....

i don't know if my problem is the same as yours, but my comp cannot setup window (a blue screen error appear during installation). i end up realize that i plug my IDE to a secondary IDE (red) thats why it won't work, i plug my CD-Rom IDE cable back to Primary (blue) and it works.
