Cannot install multimedia audio controller on AIW 9700 Pro

Every time that I try to select the line in option to the sound card from the TV setup wizard, the setup window locks. I looked to see what the problem was, and there is a multimedia audio controller in the control panel that has the yellow question mark beside it. I look under the sound, video, and game controllers tab and see that the ATI WDM Rage Theater audio and ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar icons have yellow exclamations through them saying this device cannot start. I do not have the CDs that come with the card as I bought it used. Anyone have an idea on how to fix this?

I'm currently having this problem and have been unable to resolve it. I have tried most of the current and older driver releases, but I'm having very little luck.

"Code 10" device cannot start on:
ATI WDM Rage Theater Audio
ATI WDM Rage Theater Video
ATI WDM TV Audio Crossbar

Any suggestions?

System is:
Intel Celeron 1300Mhz
Asus TUV4X
Creative SoundBlaster Live! Value
ATi Radeon 9600 AiW
Running Windows 2000 SP4
Currently running Catalyst 3.9

did you ask ATI if they know?

Done and done. I got a standard boilerplate "Have you tried searching" etc. then some random articles that don't relate to the issue. Shall I continue hounding them? Does anyone else have any experience with ATi support?

ive got the same problem also. worked fine for 8 months, now nothing. i have reformated my machine three times now and cant get squat (used xpsp2 cd). i'm going to try xp no sp tonight and see if that does anything.

searched around on the internet and it seems quite a few people have the exact same issue, but no solutions. several of them delt with ati and got nothing out of them.

there have been no hardware changes to my system recently, so its not irq issues (nothings changed). I'm wondering if the via drivers in sp2 (or other microsoft update, messed something up). im running a abit kt7a-raid mobo. i'll post the results of my format (again) tomorrow.

i distinctly remember running into issues on my last ati aiw card and said "ati: never again" and then being an idiot, i did it again. next time its a stand alone card and an addon tv card....

anyone have anything on this yet?

Try reinstalling the DAO/MDAC from ATI. It is the first download on the MultiMediaCenter downloads. Install the latest MMC after you install DAO/MDAC and after you reboot from the first install.

nascar, have you run into this same problem?

I have tried what you suggested, didnt seem to work.

update, I formatted again last night and put XP pro on (no sp), ghosted it, installed the via chipset drivers and then the old ati drivers off of my cd = same problem. ghosted it back to the clean copy of xp, did not install the via drivers, installed the old ati drivers from the cd = same problem. ghosted it back to the clean copy, installed the via drivers, installed newest catalysts from ati's page = same problem. ghosted it back to clean, did not install via drivers, installed latest CATs = same problem.

so if nothing changed with the drivers (im clean on win xp original (no patches or sp's) and using the orig ati drivers) then that would make me think of dead hardware. correct?

since ive seen so many posts on various boards about how people with 9700 aiw or 9600 aiw had them working just fine and then after 6 months they stopped with this problem and no one out there seems to have found a solution that worked, that would tell me that either the software changed (upgraded a driver, windows did it behind your back, sp2 messes this up, etc...) or that these aiw cards have an expiration date of < 1year on some of the hardware components in them.

thoughts?
