Hey Audiophiles!

Got a Sony STR-DA555ES Receiver that I am trying to connect to my Asus Maximus V Gene via Optical Cable. It works fine via 3.5mm/RCA Analog, However when trying to switch over using the Optical cable I cannot get it to work (No Sound or 5.1).

Currently have two Wharfdale Diamond 8.1 bookshelf speakers, 1 Diamond Center Channel and Subwoofer connected to receiver. (Will install Surround speakers once I get the Optical crap worked out.)

Any ideas on what I might be overlooking? Tried just about everysetting on the amp/reciever, have red light coming from Optical cable.

Have you changed what your output is in the Windows sound control panel? Win will only use one set of outputs at a time.

Yeah I had it set to Optical in Windows. At first the reciever would get the signal by showing the Speakers but still no sound. Eventually the signal was lost with no speakers showing on the reciever. I am going to punt and try using a Asus DSX sound card and see if that remedies the situation.

I'm not familiar with that receiver, but I'd look at "supported formats" in the sound card's properties.

Check if it's outputting 16bit / 44.1khz samplerate. Maybe the reciever doesn't support 48khz or others.. just shooting blanks here. What happens when you play the test tones? still nothing? Did you carefully read the actual manual for the reciever? You most likely have to put the reciever in digital / optical mode using the source function. Try an alternativ soundcard if you can for cheap

Receiver does support 48khz. Test tones are a no go. Also have changed the input to Optical. Will be getting the Asus DSX card today from UPS so I am going to see if that changes anything.

I know the receiver should work with Opitcal as I had my P67 Sabertooth board hooked up and it worked. I have a feeling the Maximus V Gene codec w Soundblaster III FX might be the culprit.

Figured it out. Speaker Setup was not complete on the receiver. Must have accidently reset it...
