This is a mostly American team, but there's enough of us who actually know how to speak correctly that we can have a little fun together. :)

Way back when, I remember having a gauntlet start up between our Canadian and British members in Genome@home. I think it's time to revive that gauntlet.

Ok, here's how it will work. Once we have a fair number of folders on board, we will set a date to start and finish the competition. Whichever team racks up the most points over that time period wins. All stats will be recorded from the official folding stats, and compiled by me. I'll make a little webpage with simple graphs and such to show the race.

Post here with your folding name and nationality if you want to join the gauntlet. If the Brits can't come up with enough people to make this interesting, then we could open up their team to all of Europe, or even more. We can decide that later, depending on how even the teams look.

I'll start:
Folding Name : Yogi
Nationality: Canadian

So, are all you Brits up to the challenge, or will you get whipped by your own colony? Bring it on!

P.S. Our beer is better than yours.

:edit:
We have expanded the challenge so that anyone from a commonwealth country other than Canada can join with the Brits.

Yeah, I'm kinda hoping to lure neevo out of hiding with that remark. ;)

I'll find out next week...

No challenge for me thanks to the last electric bill, I pay $150/month and they reckon that I still owe them over $1200 :(

Yogi buddy, you live in a country where you can't decide between French (how I hate typing that word :D ) and your form of english.

Good beer, eh? Is not exactly the "Queen's english" ;)

Neevo also makes a very valid point, mine too is a home farm, partially shut down because my electric bill is a killer, and is going up again. Bummer we can't get a break there.

Fold on dudes, it's all good. :D

You don't need a lot of machines running, this isn't an individual competition. You can just chip in whatever few work units you are producing anyway and give a little boost to the UK group.

P.S. Find out next week? Does that mean you'll be coming over to this side of the pond for a visit?

For us, bad use of english is slang for when we're lazy. For you Yanks, it's a way of life. :)

1st - 15th in Calgary visiting a former workmate/friend and his wife. I'm hiring a car and have made it my job to teach the canuks the correct side of the road to drive on - by example.

Come on, you americans can't even spell. Take Little_Kenny for example who, according to relic, sold his soul to santa last week

BTW, due to the influx of immigrants we now speak the Queen's Engrish

(This is slightly off Yogi's topic)

I think this can be said for several folks, it's officially Summertime here on this side of the planet and overall productions will decrease due to heat / electricity costs. Nothing to be concerned about, just that time of the season. Usually in the Winter it goes back up.
On a side note I'm working on replacing my Folding TV and upgrading it some, so that will reflect in a slightly increased production once it goes online. It's going from a 2200+ XP to a A64 3200+ (gotta do something with those CPUs just sitting around.) :)

(on Yogi's topic)

Will either side, U.K. or CA, be accepting Yankee Folding Mercenaries ? ;)

Only is one side seems very outmatched from the start. I'm hoping enough people will throw their hats in from both countries to make a good race of it.

I'm in.

I may not be in ( hols ) but the home farm will crunch on here in England.
Only running around 1.5K points per week.
And £12 a week in power.

Luck.......... :D

When is this going to start/end? I might be able to bring up a few computers for this but not if the timing is bad ;)

Folding Name: Carnival Forces
Nationality: (Speaking of former colonies...) Indian (REAL Indian, not Native American). If there aren't enough Indians, since I was born in/am-being-raised-in America, I can count as an American, too :D

EDIT: hoi, can we start after summer? Like, late August or so? Not just for me, but becuase many people will be on vacation, etc. And during the school time pretty much everyone's back home, so more people will be able to participate.

EDIT #2: Howabout a Former-Colonies-Of-Britain-That-Speak-English (thus, excluding the Americans :p) vs. Britain vs. America? a kind of FFA (free for all) if you will!

btw (didn't read the rest of the thread :p) have you posted on other forums about this?

To James: This will start whenever we think that we' have as many people signed up as we can. I'm guessing end of next week, unless the turnout is extremely good or bad. You can just chip in with whatever you've got.

To Carnival Forces: If we don't get enough canucks, then we might expand it to Commonwealth vs. Britian, but if possible, I'd like to get enough people to have it be just Canada vs. Britian. That whole born-in/raised-in America sounds like it might disqualify you though. It sounds like you are an american of Indian decent more than a Indian living in the states. ;)

canucks ? is that slang for Candians?

while, of course, i'd prefer it to be a "commonwealth" vs. britain, i can understand... :(

lol, but the 2nd round, you must make it commonwealth vs. britain vs. U.S.

and while it sounds like i'm an American of Indian descent, and that is true, I feel/think/act more like an Indian living in America. (We're the only ones of our family (that is, we = immediate family) to live in the states, everyone else is around the world)... Trust me, I know how to speak English :D

Bump.

So that's 2 for Britain and 2 or 3 for Canada.

I know there are more folders around here from these two countries. Come on and join in!

I am from Canada, and my username is TCS.

When does this start?

Why do I suddenly have a huge smile on my face? :D Just the username I hoped to see. Great going James!!!

The competition will start this saturday at noon.
It will continue for one month until August 3rd at noon.

Any Candian or Brit can join at any time during the competition, but their stats will only be added from the time they join on.

I forgot to check the stats at noon, so the competition started at 7:30 eastern time.

The competition will be won by whichever tem can produce the most points in the next month.

The current team representing Canada is:
Yogi
MaDSpartus
TCS

The current team representing the UK is:
Nicklearse
Tigerbiten

Anyone from these two countries can join at any time, but your stats will only count from the time you join onwards, so hurry!

Canada has 21 total active CPUs in the last 7 days, while the UK has 13. I think that Tigerbiten's machines are quite a bit more powerful than mine though so this should be a good competiton.

Good luck everyone, and may the best nation win!

Seems a little lopsided to me.

Can South Africa compete as a seperate team, since Her Royal Highness had her fun here
too. Rugby and Cricket are national pastimes, and in Johannesburg we have suburbs like
Mayfair, Brixton, Crosby, Hyde Park etc.

Oh and as for the commonwealth claims of India and Australia, I'd move to say India at
least had one well known South African celeb (Mahatma Ghandi) and some decent ideas
regarding cooking (dahl, naan, dhania, sambals and masala are prime examples).

However, I am not too sure about those sheep-shaggers down under, it may be quite
interesting to see the [H]ard|OCP's sheepshaggers sweat and toil to give their own kind
a sound 1000 WU whopping! ;)

Ok, since there seems to be an intrest, we'll expand the challenge to any commonwealth country that want's to compete as a seperate team.

The start date will be pushed back to next saturday and any commonwealth country that can come up with at least two compeditors by then will have it's own team.

South Africa and India both need one more member to make a team, so anyone from these countries should join asap and show some national pride!

So any commonwealth country can play...but not a guy who dated a sheep?

Doesn't seem fair... ;)

Hmmm, the one South African [H]ard|Forum member that I know (PhyberOptik) will probably
start folding under my banner some time this week. :(

I have seen a chap called Panther (from Pretoria), but his last WU submission was on
14 Feb 2004 ... so I guess he fell out of the folding bus. Could I cite him as a 'silent
partner' ... since we are the only two South Africans that are folding for [H]ard|OCP.

I promise that "sub-team" [H]yperion's daily WU output on its own, will be sufficient to at
least motivate the stragglers of the 1st-world teams. We should have 12 CPUs (roughly
19GHz) in our corner come Saturday! ;)

If the "Yankee Mercenaries" can be applied to bolster the South African numbers, I pick
MidnightFreak[H]! :D

At the moment I'm two boxen ( 6.5 Ghz ) down due to heat problems.
Hopefully by next weekend I'll get them backup.
Plus another dual AMD 2200+.
Plus maybe a dual Opteron 250.
If it works out and they all dont overheat it will be eight boxen for 32 Ghz.

Luck........ :D

I have a few surprises up my sleeve too you know ... since it's winter here ... and since
my modus operandi relies heavily on human networking, I even have CPUs in the UK! :p

Ok, we can take your work for it that PhyberOptik is under your name.

South Africa has a team.

I don't know if after the great purge, one of my buds (working in London now) has lost his
[H]ard|Forum login (he wasn't a frequent [H] flyer ... I think his handle was Gnimsh or
Viper) he is folding under the [H]yperion banner too.

"Und nau my leedle poopsies you hav ze war viss Sows Afrika on your hands!" :D

Bump. It looks like britain needs more members to have a chance as I just added more boxen. I know there's more of you [H]ard Brits out there!

We can always use more Canadian and assorted commonwealth member too. :)

And Hyperion, what's your F@h username?

Just had a major outage due to heat.
Lost the hard drive on my gateway boxen about 30 mins after I went out for 2 days.
But have picked up some [H]ardware.

Luck........ :D
