I've got parts on order to put together a second PC but I'll also need a KVM switch to connect to both PCs but I'm not sure which one to get. Can someone recommand one? 2 sets of inputs would be sufficient but I wouldn't mind having some room for additional PCs. Also, I would need one USB port for my mouse. Any suggestions recommandations would be appreciated. Thank you.

If you can use a PS/2 ->USB adapter, I'm using this Zonet 4-port KVM myself. Main reason I got it over other ones available at the time was that it included KVM cables with the unit. There's a better selection now, so you can find more KVM's with cables, but this Zonet works pretty well.

I have a 2 port zonnet and a 4 port manual switch (POS, old, but works) if you want either one PM me. I dont have extra cables but you can get them uber cheap on the egg or ebay. I am pretty much giving them away just pay shipping + handling. LMK.

thank you for the suggestions and thank you for that offer guito13, but a USB port is absolutely neccessary since the mouse is optical. (Isn't USB required for optical mice? I've got a Logitech MX510)

You can use a simple USB -> PS2 Converter. I have one laying around that im not using. I have an 8 port KVM using a Logitech MX700 mouse (Before that I had a Microsoft optical mouse) and i convert the USB to PS2 using an adapter with no issues.

In answer to the optical question, No. But it may depend on the mouse, would have to be PS2 compatible.
I'm using an old SwitchView made by CyBex with my MS IntelliMouse. Doesn't need external power and its nice and small. Just need to create something to switch over the speakers as well.
