Can You Overclock Xeons?

yes if the motherboard you are using supports it, but there aren't many. you would probably get a better answer by posting in the smp forums.

From looking at spikegifted sig I would venture to guess yes. :D

X5DAL-G with dual Xeon 2.4GHz (533MHz FSB), 1.0GB PC2100 Reg. ECC
DPI533 with dual Xeon 2.4GHz (400MHz FSB @ 3GHz), 1GB PC3500
DPI533 with dual Xeon 2.2GHz (400MHz FSB @ 2.9GHz), 1GB PC3500

Personally I am thinking of two 2.6GHz chips through IPD after the new Nocona chips are released. Should be a nice price drop and with IPD they are even better. Now if the DH800 would just hurry up and get released.

Can You Overclock Xeons?

Yes... yes u can... and quite nicely. The IWill DPI533 has fsb adjustments. There is also a very well documented EASY Vcore mod that can be done also. Here is my dually 3.0 setup at 3.4. I can run at 3.6 but it is not 24/7 100% stable at that speed yet. Here are some benchies and pics:

Basic Specs:
Dual 3.0(400) Xeon@3437, 1.65v, 20x171
IWIll DPI533-SATA
1GB (2x512) Corsair XMS PC3500 2-2-2-5
Adaptec 29160 HBA
36GB Seagate X15-36LP(boot)
80GB Seagate ATA-100(storage)
GeForce 4 MX420
Audigy 1
Ikebana 4x DVD+RW

WHOA!

Where'd you get the WC stuff, I've been looking for a WC set-up proposal...haven't been able to find anything...

Yea, I'll go and post over in the SMP forums as well on this one, thanks for all of your help!

Where'd you get the WC stuff

It's all pretty much right on the Koolance site. You can buy their cases and other stuff at Fry's now. I have had this case and the waterblocks for a few years now(started with a pair of AMD XP1700's OC'd). I just had to buy the Xeon adapters which cost about $7 a pair. For an out of the box soloution I think Koolance is the best ATM. The best part of the Koolance is the flexability of the waterblock mounts. It will accomodate almost any CPU with the purchase of a simple usually inexpensive adapter. The cooling is not the best as far as WC setups go but will definately keep most current CPU's at stable tempatures with very reasonable OC's. GL :)

Are Xeons clock unlocked?

3Ghz with a 20X multiplier comes out to a 150FSB.

If you're looking for a good dual board this recent one from asus did well in a review I saw, plus it oced well too:

The ASUS PC-DL is a good MOBO. However it has no AGP/PCI lock like the IWill DPI533, something to keep in mind if you are planning to OC.

On MOBO's that have BIOS's that allow it, you can adjust the multiplier down but not up.

Rev. 1.05 has the lock on it, or thats what they say.

Hmmm, I dont see how the v1.05 can differ so much without a new BIOS unless they have made major design changes and added a jumper to the MOBO, or something of that nature. The latest BIOS for the PC-DL Deluxe MB 1003 Release BIOS dated 2003/10/13. I dont see any informations in the readme's for any of the release BIOS's that claim to have added an AGP/PCI lock. I dont have the time to read the 22 page post over at 2cpu.com but the census seems to be no one is able to lay hands on a v1.05 board to confirm the functionality of the lock.
