I'm currently leaching off my sisters internet connection and was wondering if my from my laptop a pc I built can share the same internet connection , both have ethernet connections . Any advice would be nice !!!

Most newer PCs have gigabit NICs...which are auto MDI-X....so crossover cables are ...I guess considered extinct, no longer necessary, just like with most switches these days now.

Although you'll be using Windows built in ICS...less than desirable.

Is this an industry standard?

AFAIK, Auto-MDI\MDX is an industry IEEE approved standard. Don't quote me on that though - I've seen it on more than the majority of newish Switches\Routers these days so I'd say it is\has to be.

can you use ubuntu and windows at the same time ?

Create a new thread because that doesn't have anything to do with the OP. And, for all intensive purposes, no. If you really want to find out, I suggest you look into Virtualization (Microsoft Virtual Server\PC and VMware) and possibly Cygwin.
