Can you damage an LCD with multiple simultaneous digital signals?

Here's the senario, I have:

  • An XBox - With HDMI Out
  • A Desktop PC - With HDMI Out
  • A Old Dell 2405 LCD - With only 1 DVI input. NO HDMI inputs.

I want to be able to connect both the XBox and PC to the monitor over the DVI input without having to swap plugs all the time. So my thought was to buy a DVI-D(Dual link) Male to HDMI Female x 2 Adapter and both would share the same input. My only concern is what happens if both the PC and the XBox are on at the same time, sending two digital signals to the monitor. Could this damage the monitor in some way, or would it get "confused" by the two signals and just not work or produce a corrupted image? Anyone have any concrete knowledge of how this would work out?

Thanks in advance

pretty sure that breakout cable will only work in one direction.

why not just get an HDMI switch?

Hopefully the 360 doesn't use HDCP.. don't think the 2405FPW supports that.

Doh! You're right, I didn't think of that initially. I even have an HDMI switch I never used so not sure of the quality but it's worth a shot. I just need an HDMI -> DVI cable like others have said.

Thanks all!
