For price & performance does anything beat the Dell D600? I say PRICE because it's important. The D600 can be had for about $1400 with everything I need loaded in it.

Refurbished D600 with 1 year warranty & support:
5 pounds
Pentium M - 1800 (I need at LEAST Pentium M 1.8Ghz or P4 2.4Ghz)
512MB Ram (Necessary)
CDRW + DVD Reader (Necessary
30GB Hard Drive (Min.)
14.1 Inch Screen (Min.)
2100 Wireless Centrino (Min.)
XP Pro
Good video card.
S-Video Out (Necessary)
Built in sound (Necessary)
2 USB
Ethernet (Necessary)

Like I said I can get all of this in the D600 for around $1500. If anyone has a system that matches or exceeds these specs for less, please link to it here.

Thanks!

you can beat that, thats not a great configuration for a D600 at that price if its refurbished. Two things, the Pentium M @1.8 is not even comparable to a Pentium 4 M @ 2.4ghz. The Pentium M @1.8ghz is more comparible to the Pentium 4 M @ 3ghz+. So you would prolly only need say a 1.6 P-M or less to match a 2.4ghz P4-M. And also do u want an SXGA screen?

Figured it out:
Go to the Basic Dell D600 configuration.
-Select Intel® Pentium® M Processor 725 (1.60GHz) w/ 14.1in SXGA+ Display
-Select Microsoft® Windows® XP Professional, SP1, no media
-Keep the 128mb of ram and check the mail in rebate
-Select 8-24-24-24X SWDVD/CDRW Combo Drive
-Select FREE UPGRADE! 30GB,HD,9.5MM,4200RPM Special Offer
-Select Intel® PRO/Wireless 2200 WLAN (802.11b/g, 54Mbps) miniPCI Card
-Select 6 CELL PRIMARY BATTERY

Price comes out to $1482 plus tax not including the $100 rebate
-Use the $100 rebate to buy a 512mb SO-DIMM of Kingston PC2700 off of Newegg

This config will come out to maybe a little over $100 more than your refurb config, has mainly the same configuration (CPU is slighty slower, but higher resolution screen, 640mb of ram instead of 512mb, and a Intel 2200 instead of 2100) and comes new with a 3 year warranty.

EDIT* If you just got the 725 with just the XGA screen, the price would come out to 1402 plus tax not including the mail in rebate.

Last time I bought from Dell I found that with the correct usage of coupons I could beat the refurbished systems' prices.

And you're right about the PM 1.6 having about the same computing power as a P4 2.4Ghz.
