Can to DSL's run on one line?

I am currently living with the GF and her roommate.
The have verizon DSL, which is a huge rip-off.

They pay $40 each month for a 768/128, that sucks.
I need a fster upload and have offered to pay an extra $40 each month to get a better provider (they stil pay 20, 80 total).

But they are both happy with getting the shaft and verison doesn't offer any higher upload speeds.

So, I was thinking, would it be doable for me to get another ISP serving just me on the same line without much signal loss or ability to use the phone?
