Can This Work? ATI2400AGP/AMD/Via/SIS on board/WinXP

Before I crap away many hours of my time on a lost cause, has anyone been able to get this combination to work with an ATI 2400 AGP card? I read a lot of complaints about the AMD/VIA combination not working at all with the 2400/2600 cards.

Here is my system:

HP computer
AMD Athlon-3000
Via mother board with SIS graphics on board plus AGP slot
Windows XP pro

I'm looking at this board:

SAPPHIRE 100232L Radeon HD 2400PRO 256MB 64-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X

I need to drive my new 2560x1600 monitor and this is the lowest power card that will do it. My computer currently draws a maximum 110 watts at the plug from a 250W PS. Trying to avoid a PS upgrade in a 5 year old computer. NO 3D games, just 2D business software and graphics.

The alternative is a PS upgrade and an Nvidia 7300 card, or just scrapping the computer.
Any help is appreciated.
