I know it's listed but the card is Dual slot cooling....so can it even fit onto a SLI mobo or do we have to buy a special r200 mobo with huge spaces between those pci-express slots? Cause that would be lame.

6800U's were dual slot can could be SLI'd, but I still think you need a Xfire board for Xfiring the 1800. I'm not sure what the official word is on SLI/Xfire compatibility.

I see.

I was just wondering cause my SLI edition mobo only has 3 pci express slots.....and the board can take 4 of those 3 slots.....or I guess the spaces between the slots are huge.

It would probably be pretty easy to make them cross-compatible, but I would imagine that ATI would want you to buy a cross-fire board instead of their competitors.

It would be better for ATi for it to work on SLi boards, since those are actual retail products and have been for over a year.

There needs to be a master card with Crossfire, there also needs be a motherboard for Crossfire, neither are available. Why would you even want crossfire when SLI is available.

You need a special backfire MB with the ATI chipset(not available now). The ASUS A8N boards for SLI have the most generous room for 2 cards and can accomidate 2 6800 ultra cards but its tight. You need good cooling fans! I am assuming the ASUS will probably make a backfire board of much the same design.

It really depends on how you would hook yourself up.....and what works....you could conceivably use a double wide master and a single wide slave to save room.....I wouldnt fret though.....the MB makers have no doubt figgured it out. Youll just need plenty of power.

I dont think youre going to see product anytime soo though, unfortunately. Get 2 7800 GTX in SLI.....you wont be sorry. :D

Yea if I upgrade I plan on going SLi if I can since it just seems to be superior and available. ATi looked great but no AGP so no real reason for the ATi cards. Can't go wrong with Nvidia or ATi but Nvidia is the best right now so might as well.

imo crossfires more effective when it comes to upgrading, since u just have to throw out the slave, put ur previous master as slave and get a new master, unlike sli where u have to throw out both cards (or sell for much less) to upgrade :p

Wait let me get this right you run two identical cards on the crossfire system for instance two x1800xt's for maximum performance. You throw out one x1800xt for the newer version of it the x2800xt and set one x1800xt as slave. Now from what I read doing this means your shiny new x2800xt is detuned to x1800xt for compatibility so whats the point? It's great on paper you can mix slow cards with faster ones but doesn't really make sense in the real world. The only reason to run SLI or crossfire is for top end which is tons of money spent even if you used two cheaper 6600gt's or even x850's so whats the point again? So again you end up with a setup crossfire wise that doesn't really improve and is impractical. SLI is the most logical practical if running dual vid cards was necessary for all gamers to play games I would say crossfire is a better implementation but since there is no reason to run sli or crossfire with budget cards in the 30-200 dollar range crossfire is the worst.
The whole slave master card thing is really confusing at first until you actually read through reviews and whatnot and confusing methods usually don't become successful.

ATI please make a board like SLI instead and stop wasting time with the master slave setup please for everyones sake! If I run crossfire it's gonna be with two 1800xl's or xt's period.

The master and slave have to be in the same family, you cant mix different familys.
