Can someone help with my display config...?

I will have my desktop (dvi) and my labtop (dvi or vga) hooked up to one monitor. I am either getting the Dell 2407 or the HP LP2465, the one thing that sets them apart for me is the second DVI input on the HP.

Will the laptop look ok via VGA to a 24" monitor? My main concern is the overall graphic perfomance of this.
