Can PhysX work with CrossFire setup?

PhysX working with crossfire has no more or less restrictions than running with a single ATI card. You'll either have to use the fluke beta drivers or hack the drivers yourself but other than that running crossfire doesn't prevent you from using another card as PhysX.

a bug?

nVidia called it a "bug".............whatever you want to label it.

I downloaded those betas last night, and there's a pretty good video- in german- on youtube of it running just fine.

I would bet nvidia will plug this hole pretty fast, why I don't quite understand?
I would be happy to buy a 9800GT or something to run Physx, I have the room on my board to do it.

Quite frankly, I haven't seen a game that deserves it yet.

And yes, Crossfire really has nothing to do with implementing Physx, you just need the software and a place to plug in an nvidia card.
 
So if you have 3 PCIe slots and running 2 ATIs in crossfire, could I use say a 220GT in the third slot for physix?

Yes. I'm running 2x Sapphire Vapor-X 5770s and an EVGA 9800GTX+ for physx under Win7-64bit right now with Catalyst 10.4hotfix and 186.xx drivers respectively. Works great.

might as well not have one. physx is processed by shaders. it's the only spec that matters for physx. 220 only has 16 of them. it won't do jack.
 
I still for the life of me am wondering why Nvidia would do this, all it does is cause them to sell less cards. Plus if you think about it, they openly advertised their cards can do PhysX, but don't advertise that it won't work with an ATI card as your primary. That is false advertisement bate and switch if there ever was one. If I pay for an Nvidia card, I expect to get the same exact features any other user would, no matter what the rest of the hardware layout is. This reminds me of the bullshit 3dFx used to do, which is the same bullshit that found them being bought by competition and out of the market.
 
its not false advertisement directly, or bait-and-switch at all, its they dont shout it because they know people would be upset. their reasoning behind it is to ensure driver compatability, as they only test their drivers to work with their cards, they will not guarantee their drivers and cards will work with their direct competitors products, so they disable it.

a crappy situation to put the customer in? sure, but they arent doing it soley to screw ATI owners.
 
I call BS on that explanation. Anybody who knows PC based systems know any piece of hardware on your motherboard, could conceivably break other pieces of your hardware. But you don't see other manufacturers disabling a major advertised functionality of their hardware because a competitor has a piece of hardware installed or built into the motherboard. Does Intel disable their NIC's on systems that have a broadcom NIC built in? Does Soundblaster disable their sound cards on motherboards that have a competitors card installed? Does Western Digital make it so their drives dont' work if you have a Seagate installed as your primary drive?

Honestly, I think if it were truly a support issue, they would allow you to enable it with a CoolBits-like reghack. If you have to hack at the registry to enable something they say is unsupported, then you're pretty much verifying that you understand that and don't expect Nvidia to take care of you.

I really think this is Nvidia saying "my way or the highway" and finding a barely-plausible excuse to make it look less aggressive.

i agree with the theory, but the number of people who would still come to nvidia looking for support, even after hacking the hardware and voiding warranties and what have you, would be a big enough drain on nvidias support system that they choose to just disable it entirely. and who knows what problems might arise- its possible that there would be such conflicts that you might need to do something as drastic as reinstall windows. when you cause people to loose their precious, but un-backed-up, documents they get bent out of shape. and even though the blame is on them, nvidia would be the ones getting the bad press from such an incident.

ive seen reports from microsoft on how many % of calls they get are from people who paid $8 to the guy on a corner for a "legit" copy of windows 7, and they get irate when microsoft tells them they dont have warranty or customer service coverage, and furthermore their software is illegal.

or people who jailbreak their iphones, then call/come in to the apple store or ATT and complain that their phone isnt working with this 3rd party app that voids their warranty but they still expect service.

if the people who use their purchased hardware outside of the warranty accepted these risks, then fine. but the people who try and fail, or ignore the warnings- those are the people who put a tremendous strain on customer support just by virtue of having to spend the time explaining to the customer that what they did is not covered and they are SOL and on their own.

telling someone to sit and spin after they brick an expensive brand new electronic gizmo leaves a bad taste in the mouth of that consumer from the company that wont help them, regardless of where the blame should rightfully be placed (usually between the keyboard and chair). i can understand if nvidia would rather just stay out of the whole mess.
