Tried all the usual stuff.. reinstalling the nvidia drivers, deleting the old ones by hand, setting up the network connections again. But I simply can't communicate with anything any more. No packets in, no packets out.

Trying to disable the device or do much else with it causes a system hang (I removed it manually). Can onboard ethernet controllers just die randomly like this?

Any suggestions?

Yeah I've had that happen before. The first thought that comes to my mind when checking for hardware problems is to boot Knoppix livecd or something else, typically Linux/BSD/non-Windows machines give better error messages. You should also check the cable and see if the NIC/switch are lighting up, also try a different cable.

Onboard Ethernet controllers die more often then you'd think :p nf3 suggests that your motherboard is out of warranty, so time to go find a cheap NIC off the egg :D

yeah the lights light up, ive tried everything.. it just dont connect.

damnit, can barely fit a another pci card in my box!
