I am running XP and I lost all the data on my slave drive. It is now doing the classic "drive is not formatted" when I try to access it in XP and file scavenger gets about 1 gig of data back out of 160 gigs.

I was going to buy diskpatch but a friend of mine told me that I might be able to use a linux boot disk to rebuild the partitiob table in order to try to save the data. Does anyone know how to do this or ever heard of it?

If anyone can point me in the right direction please let me know what version of linux to hget my hands on and how I might go about doing it. Thanks.
