Can I use 2x256 and 2x512 modules together?

I am upgrading my computer and building a computer for a friend, I want to take 2 of my 256 mb modules out of my pc and put them in hers, that leaves me with 512, would it be ok to put in another gig for a 1.5gb setup on dual channel?
 
Its an ASROCK 939 dual

the 256's I'm gonna keep are Geil golden Dragon PC3200

The 512's are up in the air as to what I will get
 
get something with the same timings and hope K8's memory controller doesn't hate you
 
thanks eclipse, I will try it, heck, if it doesn't work, its an excuse to buy a couple more 512mb modules later. worse comes to worse, I have 1GB

I would just get 2x1GB but that is too hard to justify to the powers that be, and I am not a high-res gamer anyway, my monitor only goes to 1024x768. Will let you know how it turns out.
 
OK, my 939 dual is grouchy and doesn't like 4 sticks, so I think I will just get 2 1GB sticks and give the 1gb I have to a friend.
