I've got a p4p800 from asus with a promise378 controller onboard with 2x 180gb SATA drives.

I'm seriously contimplating going the way of AMD and was wondering if I would loose everything on my drives if I found a AMD solution that did not use the promise 378 driver. Or even if it did have it, if I would have to reinstall anyways?

I'm loving raid-0.... super freakin fast... is it any faster under windows XP? I really dispise XP, so I stay with 2000, but sitting next to my friend with pos dell rig, and his boots up faster than mine really gets to me :p

I still load battlefield 2 faster, but just barely.

I wouldn't count on moving it safely by a long shot. And in terms of faster boots, losing the raid could actually help, if you move to an onboard controller that initializes faster at boot and turn off the raid controller. In any case, the more devices you can disable, the faster it's likely to boot.

There are 2 questions here regarding the RAID.
1. Would the RAID array be valid on the different controller.
That is a maybe, it is POSSIBLE, but you cant say for sure without trying. You more than likely will need to back up your files then redo the array. Make sure you have the space to do so.

2. Would you have to reinstall if it did read the RAID array.
YES. When changing motherboards, you will not be able to use the same operating system installation. If the majority of your HDD space is used with program files and OS stuff, then you wont have to worry too much since you will be reinstalling them.

Regarding boot speed:
I also agree that booting from a non raid hdd, can help your boot time by a few seconds, depending on how the drivers are loaded.

Just another comment:
I don't think RAID0 is "super freakin fast" by any means. You get a small performance increase but its not as fast as it should theoretically be. Did you benchmark the hdd's before RAID0 and after RAID0?
