Is it possible for me to test that parts are working properly without a GPU? Parts in question are:

Core i7 965
Corsair Dominator 1600MHZ
Asus Rampage extreme ii

I have everything excpet my GPU would I be able to build it install windows and see if my parts work?

Thanks

Yep, system won't post without video. Just snag any ol' VGA card.

EDIT: What made you think you could get to the point of installing Windows without any video?

...agreed; I haven't seen Windows "Morse Code" edition yet....:p

The guys are right. Any video card (except AGP) will get it done for you. I keep old cards of most flavors around in the shop to use for testing and purposes just like this.

How are you going to do anything on your computer if there's no output to the monitor??

Haha yes once I look at the replies I feel foolsih to have asked....but I was desperate having all this stuff sitting around not doing anything is driving me crazy.

I have a xfx 7300 lying around somewhere do you think it can handle a 30 incher?

Thanks you guys for the replies!!

Dont forget to put tape over the PCIE slot to keep the 1s and 0s from falling out, they make a real mess when they get all over the floor.

In all seriousness, no, there is no way to test the parts as desired. Most motherboards will not even post without some sort of VGA support. They will simply beep and stop. But as stated any GFX card will work, even an old PCI card, doesn't have to be PCIE.

But it is a good point, because the Rampage has that little LCD Poster or whatever its called, not sure if it would show anything other than the post messages, I haven't messed with one.

· 1600 x 1200 Digital Maximum

· 2048 x 1536 Analog 16.7 Million Colors (32-bit)

· 2048 x 1536 Analog Maximum

is what the GS says

2048 x 1636 @ 85Hz maximum digital resolution at 32-bit color for ultrarealistic gaming experiences

is what the GT says

heh, use a smaller monitor for now or get a vidcard that can support that res. or try it, and see if it accepts a lower res as input, since it should. i don't have a 30, so i can't tell you how it'll act, lol.

The 7300 will push it just dont expect native res out of it. Friend of mine ran his 30" on a ATI 1550 for a month waiting for the 4870X2s to come out. It was ugly but it worked.

If you boot it up and get no post beeps, beyond the initial one, then your good. My mobo has a ## led on the mobo to tell problems. You can test it those 2 ways without a GPU.
Thanks you guys for the replies!!
Just set it to 800x600. Start button the size of a quarter ftw!

Hahaah yes yes make fun of me I deserve it. But thank you for the helpfull posts.

As I said I just need to run it to see if the hardware works properly. I dont mind running on non native resolution. The thing is I'm currently residing in Lebanon, and since I ordered the stuff from the egg and my brother is bringing them over when he visits, I need to test em and send back anything that doesnt work with him when he leaves.

I thought there could be some more technical way of doing it like mrmagoo_83 stated. The Asus has a LCD for readings maybe firing it up will let me see something???

Anyway thanks again and lol @ "Start button the size of a quarter ftw!"
