OK hears the deal... i run Windows XP Pro.. i have an XP 2600+... running on an MSI KT3 ULTRA... the 'problem' drive here is a Maxtor 250GB IDE 7200 8mb
in windows while downloading alot of direct connect, i s aw alot of messages saying "this file is corrupt, please run chkdsk".. (the bubble that shows up by the system tray)... so when i went to run CHKDSK, it said that it couldnt do anything because the file system on that drive was RAW, but i could stil see the files at that point.. ive had many problems with hard drives but i thought it was just luck, now im thinking its my IDE controller. anyway, i went to reboot and all of a sudden when i got back into windows, the drive wasnt formatted, and it asked if i would like to format it now, wtf? i put it in another comp and the Disk managment program says the drive is healthy but does not see a filesystem.. so ive had problems with drives on this comp before... is there ANY way i can recover data on this drive? any utilities or anything?? i had important stuff on this drive and i really need to do what i can to get it back...i havent tried to format it yet..
other error messages i saw were that the system could not recognize a filesystem, i havent seen the message in a little so im not sure of the exact wording... ANY help would be greatly appreciated.. so what i need to know is..

Can i somehow recover ANY of this data?
and
Will this drive be usable on another computer in the future?

My guess would be after a format your hard drive will be as good as new, however I'm not big on the HDD saving utilities, would have to ask some technician around here or something!

Good luck,
Jon

copied from my other "save an HD" thread:

I've only had consistently good recoveries with OnTrack's EasyRecovery Pro

http://www.ontrack.com/freesoftware/

get the trial. It's free and will "list" all recoverable files. If it can see them, the full version will get them back. Depending on how much you value your data, you might want to pay. At least this free version will let you know if you have any hope.

Good luck bro
