guess ill post the specs first, again not sure what info you all will need so forgive me if i give to much
P4 2.8 ghz
1GB of ram not sure who makes the ram and chip thou

PSU is a Demon Silver 480W ATX Switching Power Supply(yes its a cheapy i know, but it works atm)
cooling is a from 12mm Fan, an a reare 80MM fan, the CPU fan is this thing(http://www.svc.com/pa9c-38cual.html) my new case will have 1 other 80mm fan added to the back and maybe 1 more 120mm to the front(if it can fit)

im not looking to get earthshattering speeds, id just like to cross the 3.0 mark. speedfan shows it running at 29-30c at idle and up to 35c at load

Go for it. Here are the rules:

1) Make sure that your system is under load while bumping up speeds. Prime95 works great.

2) Monitor your temperatures. Stop if things get hot.

3) Increase speed S-L-O-W-L-Y. Stop and back off a bit if Prime95 barfs.

4) Feel the need for speed!
 
You need to find out what your mem is..it is in order to find a speed to shoot for. Also, you need to find out if your board has voltage adjustment. To oc, you usually always have to increase vdimm and voltage to the chip.

As stated above thouh..just increase your FSB. Also, if unstable increase the voltages. If you have nice mem it is best to lower your mult and crank the fsb.

I would research your board and mem before anything, though. :)
 
prime95 will let me OC or will i have to use a diff prog for that?

Hit the Bios key and you should see somthing called clock rate or clock freqeuncy...

yours norm should be 14x200 I dont know what ram you have or I didnt read it well so I cant say how far you should or shouldnt go.
 
Well, I would take out the mem and look at it.

You should really look at a guide into oc'ing..before you try anything.
