A friend asked me if they could burn audio to a CD and to an MP3 file at the same time. I said they couldn't do it, but decided to ask here. I assume the audio is coming in from their sound board into the computer sound card. He is currently burning the audio live to CD.

Is doing it all "live" a requirement? If he just recorded to a PCM/WAV file instead of live, the actual process of burning to a CD afterward as well as making an MP3 copy could be done simultaneously and both would finish quickly on any modern computer with a newer CD burner.

If doing it live is a requirement, then you could always try simply opening up another instance of whatever recording app you are using. Both should be able to record from the input simultaneously, and just set one to record to MP3 instead of burn to CD. You could even use separate programs for each task, recording from the same input.

I hope your not burning to a cd live. More faith in the setup and production then I would ever have.
