G'morning all,

I've bought purple thumb screws from a couple etailers. All of them are purple with a silver sheen. The purple thumb screws I bought years ago have since faded, much to my dismay.

So, can I buy some spraypaint and paint these, can I do anything special to keep them from fading?

Thanks. :)

I bought some thumbscrews that already came black. You can also spraypaint them, just be easy when screwing them in -- the screwdriver can scratch the centers of them.

I have thumb screws from Frozen CPU and Performance PCs. :p

The ones from Frozen CPU I've had for about two years. One set on my tower, the other in a drawer. The ones in the drawer are much darker than the ones that have been on my case, the ones on the case are very faded now.

The ones from PPC look exactly the same. I have no reason to believe they're not going to fade either.

I hadn't purchased either of the screws, though I know some of frozen cpu's goods are of dubious quality. I just know that anodized is generally considered to be superior to paint (and for plastics, dye is usually better than paint if it'll take).

To get paint to stick well to metal like nickel plating, it should probably be sand blasted to provide a grippable surface.I just use either black anodized or silver anodized T-screws - whichever complements the color of the case better. SVC has silver anodized and "blue" anodized aluminum "big head" ones at 99 cents per pack of 10. Ships free with just about any other significant order. They also have gold-colored steel T-screws with very slight green or red tinge for 99 cents a pack of 10. Best priced T-screws I've found anywhere. All are 6-32 thread. M-3 T-screws for Lian Li are always much more expensive (but I have a 6-32 tap ;-) ).

I don't even see the back of my PC.

have you thought about powder coating them?

Cheap black fingernail polish works rather well, I used some junk from CVS to touch up some scratches in my case.
