Can I put and 8mb hard drive as master and 2mb as slave on same ide cable. Will the 2mb slow down the 8mb at all?

Thanks

not really

IDE is sequential and while the 2MB is slightly slower
if you have a read or write that exceeds the cache
and concurrent requests to both drives
you wont notice any decrease in speed with both on the same channel (what is a millisecond here or there :p )
its damn hard to saturate the bus anyway and "colisions" or having to wait do to concurrent access would be extremely rae under "normal" desktop use
read the As The Disk Spins @ Lost Circuits thread\links

wouldnt do that if i where u. never mix two different things. (computer wise) most of the time ull end up blowing the thing or frying it.about 15% it will work but dont take the chance.

Currently Running an 80GB WD 8MB (ATA 100) drive and an old 20GB UDMA33 drive on the same chain, both running at their own max speed.

i was thinking of somthing else. i thought you where combinding them to run as one.
