I have two computers with gigabit ethernets connected to a 100 Mbit router. I would like to increase file transfer speed between computers. Is there a way to force a gigabit connection between the computers through the router? I know PC-PC connection does gigabit connection without problem, but I would like the router to remain in between.

buy a gigabit router. they are <$50. the physical hardware will not support what you are trying to do.

Or you can get a gig switch and place the 2 pc's on the same switch, then uplink to the router.

...for half the price of the gigabit router. Just wanted to reiterate.

Anyway, if you chose this option make sure you go for the same vendor for the switch as your router, otherwise you might get some annoying auto-negotiation issues resulting in lowered performance on your gigabit switch (I had this issue myself).
