Can eBay be trusted with Hardware Components?

I want to get my next upgrade (9800Pro) at eBay.com. I see them on there for about $150, and they are new and not refurbished. Since I'm not made of money, saving 60 bucks would be great.

Here are my questions...

1.) How many of you have had successful/unsuccessful purchases with PC components at ebay?

2.) If they were unsucessful, why?

3.) Finally, is spending the extra 60-75 bucks by buying it from newegg.com, worth it for customer service.

thank you!

I personaly have never purchased from ebay. I have, however sold more than a few items on ebay.

I have always dealt with customers in a reputable manner and have had no complaints. There are alot of good people and alot of bad people on ebay. Never buy from anyone who has had negative feedback and you will increase your chances of a satifiying buying experience.

Don't hesitate to check on feedback from previous buyers.

Good Luck.

IMO, you're lucky to see a $60 price difference between eBay and newegg. As long as the feedback is high enough without too many negatives, my best is that you'd be fairly safe. However, there could always be a lemon, and if you want peace of mind, stick with a reputable store.

Bestbuy has the 9800pro for like 150 right now I think, with 1 rebate, and 199 straight up I believe.....just do that.

from what ive heard, yes. just go with a seller with a high rating. someone also recommended to check their other items, for instance, if a person has sold all $1 items and now is selling a $350 LCD monitor (what im about to buy on ebay), something might be up

i got my mobo, and proc from ebay with no problems, but newegg ships faster.

IMO yes. If you dont have the money to buy the hardware new from a retailer then i can understand ordering and getting it cheaper off Ebay. But if you do have the money and are just doing it to save i would advise against it. You may or may not have any problems but its better i think to just buy it new from Newegg or Zipzoomfly or another retailer so that if something goes wrong with it you can just RMA it back to them. Plus you never know for sure what kind of abuse someone has put on the hardware used. They could of mishandled it and caused ESD damage or they could of overclocked it really hard or hell they could of dropped the thing in the floor and stepped on it.

God I hope your not speaking from experience

I have been buying and selling on Ebay since they first came out, and have only had two problems. I bought a Quadro4 980XGL a year ago, and a chip on the back was missing, and the card didnt work. I was able to get a full refund from the seller. Second, I bought a 3.0ghz P4 a few months ago, and the seller never shipped. He had perfect feedback when I bought the item, but the day after I paid (via PayPal) he started getting floods of negative feedback. He was selling PS2 game systems for $120 a few weeks before Christmas, and wasn't shipping anything. I never recieved the item, but got a full refund from PayPal 2 weeks later. I have bought around 30 computer parts and have sold around 20, and am very satisfied alltogether.

I don't buy hardware off of eBay but I would if the seller was reputable...Just remember to check feedback and use common sense...

Also if it seems too good to be true, it might be...

eBay is not a retailer.
Exactly. If you buy from eBay you are buying from someone using their service and not from eBay itself. There are a lot of good sellers as well as a lot of scammers out there. Caveat emptor... let the buyer beware.
